TKO TEAM IN IRELAND
On our third trip overseas this year it was more success for the TKO team, coupled with just a little bit of heartache.
Harry Hennon and Bradley Fothergill took great wins in tough battles with Westside Kickboxing’s Ian Moore and Andrew Grogan respectively. Harry fighting under low kick rules for the first time had to work very hard as Ian’s relentless aggression meant he had to stand and trade for most of the fight, but he was always the one hitting the target area and scored well with low kicks throughout, a clear points win.
Brad’s opponent Andrew Grogan was equally aggressive, having pledged to knock Bradley out. He was unable to do this but did he try!, loading up on all his punches however Bradley’s defence was superb, he tucked up nicely and took most on his arms (though he now has a nice black eye so one definitely got through!) and countered nicely mixing it up from head to body. This was one of our outstanding performances of the year so far and Brad was very good.
The last fight of the night was Kay Sumner against Yvonne McNevin in a fight recently upgraded to be for the IKF 5 Nations title and my god what a fight!!! The toughest fight I’ve seen for ages, we are so proud of the way Kay fought, it was so so close and although I thought we might have nicked it, it was as I say a really hard one to split and at the end the decision went to Yvonne, but just a great performance. Kay will want a rematch that’s for sure and we will work towards that.
Our team represented us brilliantly and everyone should make sure they congratulate them when they see them back in the gym, which won’t be long away as they will all now be getting back on it, preparing for KOMBAT ZONE on 9th September
