TKO ELITE GYM END OF YEAR REPORT 2015
The usual end of year round up on the happenings at the TKO Elite gym for the past 12 months, a year that I’m pleased to say has seen us grow from strength to strength and we most importantly continued to set the same standards as we have for many years now.
We started our year with a Grading syllabus seminar for all our cadet and adult kickboxing members. A good day as we ran through the recently revised grading syllabus
End of the month saw the 3rd IKF English Open Light contact Championships held at Lordswood Leisure Centre and success for TKO Elite was scored with 1st places achieved by Tyler Oxford, Jay Le Marrec, Kyle Payne and Chayden Carpenter
This month also saw us featured in the local press with a nice story about young Joseph Miall, son of Instructor Frank Miall who has battled since birth with Cerebral Palsy. He now takes an active part in our TKO TOTS classes and we were to happy to welcome down the reporters from the Kent Messenger who wished to feature a story on this very brave young boy
February saw the first KOMBAT ZONE of the year and our team did us proud once more.
Chayden Carpenter made a successful defence of his European Junior title. Kyle Payne outscored Bradley Symons from the Combat Academy in Yorkshire, Jeevan Rakar scored a great win over a tough Liam Clayton whilst Jay Le Marrec made his full contact debut with a great win as well. Bradley Fothergill was our only loss of the night but in a great learning fight with Jamie Thompson that would dividends in his performances later in the year
We also made a trip up to Ricky Lock’s club in Essex to do some great sparring with several of our younger members
March saw both the first Battle of Kent event held and our first senior grading of the year as well.
The battle of Kent was attended by fighters from all over the south of England but also a large team from TKO Elite, many of whom were competing for the first time
We went to Suffolk where Jay Le Marrec scored a second win against Dan Wright from HKA in impressive style
We were down in Hastings this month for a great event promoted by Andy Chambers. We had 2 fighters competing and both came away with very good wins
Chayden Carpenter met Alex Hook for the second time, a very good young fighter from Assassins Gym. Chayden took the first round, Alex came back hard in the second and then Chayden stepped it up in the third to secure the win.
Rytis Vilonis made his debut under K1 Rules against a very game Budha Limbu from Lions Thai. As in Chaydens fight Rytis took the first and then had to come back hard in the third after I felt losing the second. Scoring nicely with a full range of technique including some great knees to the body, he took the decision of the judges.
One day later we are back home to the nearby Dickens World for our annual Evening of White Collar Boxing. This was a great night in a great new venue
We had 4 of our guys fighting and we came away with 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss, but more importantly all 4 of them did us proud in both their performance on the night but also in the way they had prepared themselves as well. Neil Ayton, Mike D’Cruze, Bill Thind and Russell Bostock gave it everything and were cheered on by a large TKO Elite contingent amongst the packed crowd.
April saw the last class for a while for instructor Kelly Chubb who left to have a baby…fortunately as hoped she was not away for long
May always means KOMBAT ZONE, back as usual at the Casino Rooms. Jai Rakar made his Casino debut with a win, Chayden Carpenter scored a great win in an International fight with Horacio Collazzo from Belgium, Jeevan Rakar lost a very close fight against Caine Wiley (more of that later), Jay Le Marrec scored another win over a very tough Nick Lelliott and then Kyle Payne in his first challenge for a title got a very good draw against Champion Jak Jowers. A good nights work from everyone.
A great night out at the nearby Hollywood Bowl for what seems to be our annual challenge against our friends from Star Kickboxing. As with last years match, I really can’t remember who won but a great night and I’ve no doubt we will be there again sometime in 2016 as well
We had our latest Junior Grading with Charlotte Frost achieving her Brown Belt and then being told she would be attempting her Junior Black Belt in December.
The second Battle of Kent and once again at Lordswood Leisure Centre. A busy day as always and a big representation from members of TKO Elite.
July also saw us attending the WKA International Open in Yorkshire for the first time and it was double success for Chayden Carpenter and Kyle Payne who took 1st place in their categories, one of which also saw Kyle taking Silver losing in the final to Chayden. I was very proud of both boys for the way they conducted themselves, it’s not easy fighting your mates but they put that aside and had a great final even having an extra round to decide it as a draw was called after the first 3 rounds.
We also made the first announcements with regard to the next KOMBAT ZONE event in September and announced the KING Boxing Champions of Tomorrow featuring 4 of the best young fighters in the country including Chayden fresh from his win in Yorkshire.
Always a quite month for us, most of it spent getting everyone ready for KOMBAT ZONE that was coming in September
We had our annual Junior Summer Camp and Junior Chief Instructor Martina Jones kept the juniors busy all week with a mix of Kickboxing (of course) plus other fun activities.
The 28th August saw the gym visited by several members of Hastings Kickboxing under Carl Denne who came to train alongside us which was much appreciated. All members of both gyms working well together
September saw the third KOMBAT ZONE of the year and it was a massive success for our team. Chayden Carpenter took first place in the KING BOXING 4 man tournament. An outstanding achievement, beating along the way highly ranked Jordan Darrangh and Alex Hook. Jay Le Marrec took another win outpointing Dan Barfoot from FCA. Jeevan Rakar got revenge for his previous loss with a clear points win over Caine Wiley. Tegan Hacker made a successful debut as did Owen Baker winning under K1 rules and lastly Audrius Marcelo won a brilliant battle with Serg Fedins. A brilliant battle that opened the show, great way to start an event.
This month we launched our POWERWAVE classes with success. A nice addition to our timetable taken by long time member and qualified Powerwave instructor Neil Ayton
The TKO Elite team was in Ireland this month for a 6 man team challenge with an Irish Select, the event taking palace in Galway. We ended all even with our team getting 3 great wins for Jeevan Rakar, Chayden Carpeneter and Bradley Fothergill, Bradley scoring the KO of the night in a great fight with a very tough opponent. Another successful trip.
The team was in two events this month. The 17h Oct saw us in Hastings for a great event promoted by Carl Denne. We had a full team here and came away with 4 wins and just one loss. Audrius Marcelo, Kay Sumner and Rytis Vilonis all won under K1 rules whilst Jeevan Rakar got another win continuing his great year.
Two weeks later Jay Le Marrec was in Essex for an ISKA title fight. Much has been said about this fight, so for now best to just say great performance from jay against a good lad in Danny Hodgson, we never got it this night but thankfully Jay will get another crack in May in a mandated rematch.
It was Battle of Kent time again and the third of the year was another great day. Clubs from all over and a nice turnout from the TKO Elite members.
November saw the first announcements for the next KOMBAT ZONE to be held in February and for us we had a new addition to the team with young Bradley Fowle making the transition to making his KOMBAT ZONE debut, just reward for all the work he puts in.
Our senior Kickboxing Grading included our annual Black Belt Grading and new Black Belts were gained by Tegan Hacker and Jeevan Rakar whilst Neil Wyborn, Tyler Oxford and Bradley Fothergill were all successful in obtaining their 2nd Dans. It was a grading to be proud of as they all set the highest of standards for others to follow.
We also announced here our first seminar for 2016 which will be a Boxing seminar with Former WBC World Super-Middleweight Champion Robin Reid.
Our month started with the annual TKO Elite Presentation night. Awards were made to all the students of the year plus our new Black belts, a great night
Our last event of they ear was our last junior grading of the year which saw Charlotte Frost gaining her Junior Black Belt so well done to her.
All in all a busy year. Coming up we have the first KOMBAT ZONE with a large TKO Elite team set to fight there and we also have Bradley Fothergill travelling to Scotland in February for a shot at the WKA European title as well, so along with other big events already lined up for the year ahead it looks like we will continue where we left off. A big thanks to every member of the gym who has helped to make the last year such good one, see you all very soon.
